IU has allowed me to pursue my many varied academic interests, while also providing countless opportunities for cultural, social, and personal enrichment. For me, IU offers the liberal arts education of a small college that I seek while providing the resources of a Big Ten university. I know I belong at IU because I find myself missing school when I'm home.

Summertime

May 24th, 2009

The end of the school-year always conjures a mixed palette of emotions, from absurd happiness stemming from the realization that 14-hour finals-week-library-sessions are over, to sadness caused by leaving roommates and friends. It is the end of many things, both exciting and challenging.

For me however, this semester has culminated in many beginnings, rather than a single ending. I am now a junior, for starters, which means that I am beginning the second half of my college career—a realization which makes my head spin. Though the idea of finishing college is a looming concern due to the fact that career…

Campus Movie Fest

April 22nd, 2009

As a student filmmaker, I am always looking for excuses to make films, and opportunities to get my work shown! About a month ago, I saw a flyer for Campus Movie Festival, an international student filmmaking festival that travels from campus to campus providing students with the equipment they need to make a movie in a week. I jumped at the opportunity, and called up a few friends here at IU who share my interest in film. Three days before the festival arrived, we started meeting twice or three times a day to brainstorm our story idea and begin the…

Culinary Adventures in ’09

January 20th, 2009

My parents have always encouraged me to help them cook. I grew up baking cakes and breads with my mother and chopping vegetables for soups or stir-fries with my dad. I never minded cooking, but also never attempted to create gourmet food completely on my own until I came to college.

Since last Fall however, I have discovered that I absolutely love making good food. I guess this hobby was in part fostered by the fact that it’s hard to eat really well at college without paying $$$ at a nice restaurant unless you’re willing to take a trip to the grocery store and spend some time in the kitchen. I started simple, making basic meals like…

Death, Taxes, and REGISTERING FOR CLASSES…

October 31st, 2008

I knew college would be a challenge. I mean, things like homework and tests, and learning to balance my schoolwork with my social life—the obvious facts. That was before I knew how much of a pain other “little” things can be, like registering for classes.

As it turns out, registering for classes, at least for me, is harder than writing any argumentative essay, and more stressful than studying for midterms week. This sounds slightly ridiculous, but there is truth in my statement. For starters, you are assigned a time and date to register depending on your class standing. I mean,…

First Time Blogging

October 14th, 2008

I’ve never “blogged” before so this is a very new experience for me! While I’m a little nervous that so many people will be reading these, I’m still excited to start, because I know how much I’ve come to love Indiana University and maybe I can show some of the reasons why through writing here on a regular basis. So bare with me in my rambling, and I’ll do my best to share with you all the wonderful and fabulous experiences I’ve had here at IU.

I suppose I should start by telling a little bit…

WOW, what a semester it turned out to be! I’ve been unbelievably derelict about posting—in part, I think, because I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount there’s been to say.

One of the most important ideas behind presenting well is that it isn’t just about what you say, but how you say it. Incredible ideas poorly presented make little impact, and…
