In less than a week I will be going overseas! I will be spending Spring 2013 studying in Copenhagen, Denmark. I’m a little nervous, but unbelievably excited. For me, a lot of planning went into picking the right program and preparing to leave, and, surprisingly, getting everything in order for when I come back to IU next fall! At the end of this semester, in addition to studying for finals, I had some extra stress added on, because I wasn’t going to be around in the spring.
First I had to find a sub-letter, so I wouldn’t have to pay …
Thanksgiving break being a full week long this year was amazing. It is just what students need to fuel them for these last two weeks of classes and finals week. It’s easy for us to become very overwhelmed at this time of the semester: final exams, final papers, final projects…all due at the same time. It’s hard to get enough sleep, or even remember to eat and breathe. This is the time that I strongly recommend utilizing the resources that IU offers to help students get through the stress.
First, there’s the Health Center that’s right on campus, located on …
There is a fungus growing in my apartment. Luckily it’s not because of moldy food or lack of cleaning!
This semester I’m taking BIOL-B 351 and 352, Fungus lab and lecture with the famous (infamous?) Professor Tansey!
Tansey is great! He’s worked in a hospital, for paper companies, as a mold consultant, and for the CIA. On the first day of class he told us how to modify a microscope slide so we could use if for self defense! He is a mushroom expert, and aside from the fungus classes, he also teaches some of the introductory biology courses. He …
Homecoming week was hands down one of the best weeks of my life. Though everyone was prepping for exams and midterms, students still found time to show their school spirit and have fun during the week. The week included some less conventional activities (The Nearly Naked Mile) and also some conventional activities ( The actual homecoming game). Though the week was full of fun, leisure activities, I must say that my favorite part of the week was meeting prospective students at the Game Day that the Office of Scholarships sponsored. It was great to meet students in such a festive …
Some of the most unexpected moments are the ones we will hold on to forever. For me, one of these moments happened last weekend. Fall, football Saturday, tailgating, crisp weather, nothing out of the ordinary. Except that it was Homecoming. And this year, I was on Homecoming Court.
Seniors are able to apply to be on Homecoming Court each year. They are screened and interviewed. A Court of 5 guys and 5 girls is eventually selected to represent IU at the Homecoming events. These students have poise, academics, and extracurriculars on their side. The Court is judged on what they …
Here at IU, there’s always lots to do and certainly many new things to discover. Despite being a senior this year (and going against the assumption that I should know everything about IU by now), I still made a point of checking out the Student Involvement Fair a couple of weeks ago that was held in Dunn Meadow next to the Memorial Union. The field was packed full of students milling about the very colorful assortment of tables crammed with poster boards and brochures advertising each club and student group. The diversity was amazing, including the various ethnic and religious …
I can’t be the only college junior who feels like life is rushing past him before his eyes and he’s suddenly almost a real-life person dealing with real-life things.
And yet, it makes me feel so pathetic.
The weird thing about hitting the halfway point in a four-year college track is that suddenly there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. And that’s scary.
When I first came to IU, there were milestones I knew I’d hit. Studying abroad was near the top, and I just got back from an amazing summer in London. Helping lead the Indiana Daily …
A number of times I have mentioned my family in this blog. They’re crazy, kooky and sometimes downright ridiculous and I wouldn’t have them any other way. To truly understand my family, there is only one piece of knowledge that you need to know.
Every week, religiously, we gather in front of the television to watch the A&E show, Duck Dynasty. If you’ve never seen the show before, you’re missing out and if you have seen it then you’ll understand exactly why my family loves it so much.
Its about a family of millionaire rednecks- they hunt, they fish, …
I finished my first week as a sophomore! Yes, that’s right. It’s Thursday, and I am DONE for the week. This is my first time without Friday classes. And it feels just as amazing as it sounds. Today was also my first day back at my job at the Crestmont Boys and Girls Club. It was so great to see everyone at work again and to start to talk about our ideas for the year. I feel like I am back where I belong. For anyone who hasn’t gotten off campus much yet, I strongly encourage you to explore a …
I cannot BELIEVE summer is over and it’s welcome week already! Time really truly does fly! I can’t even explain how happy I am to be back in Bloomington and no longer a freshman! Dorm life was fun, but this year I am living in Union Street Apartments. It is still on campus and close to everything like the SRSC, classes, food courts, Red Mango, Subway, not far from the Union, etc. But it is set up apartment-style, and this is only the third year they have been open! I feel like I am living in a hotel. Beautiful …
